About the author

Born in Barcelona on July 31, 1818, Joaquim Rubió i Ors was a writer, historian, and scholar who worked in both Catalan and Castilian. He is closely linked with the beginnings of the Catalan Renaixença, the 19th-century movement that renewed interest in Catalan language and literature.

He became widely known through poems published under the pseudonym Lo Gayter del Llobregat, a name still strongly associated with him. Alongside his literary work, he also had an academic career, serving as a lecturer and later taking senior roles at the University of Barcelona.

Rubió i Ors was also active in Barcelona's cultural institutions and is remembered as one of the figures who helped restore prestige to Catalan letters in his time. He died in Barcelona on April 7, 1899, leaving behind a body of work that reflects both romantic feeling and a deep commitment to language, history, and regional identity.
