Best known for compiling a lively collection of Song-dynasty anecdotes, this Northern Song writer and official left behind a work that still offers readers a vivid glimpse of literary and public life in his time.

by jin shi 1053 Chuhou Wu
Wu Chuhou was a Northern Song scholar-official from Shaowu, in present-day Fujian. Sources agree that he earned the prestigious jinshi degree in 1053, and some record that he later served in several government posts.
He is best remembered as the compiler of Qingxiang zaji (Miscellaneous Records of the Green Box), a collection of stories and observations from Song-era cultural and political life. Modern library and reference descriptions present the book as a gathering of anecdotes about officials, writers, poems, and public affairs, which helps explain why it has remained of interest to later readers.
Some reference works also give his courtesy name as Bogu and place his death around 1093, though details of his life are sparse and not always fully consistent across sources. No suitable verified portrait could be confirmed from the sources reviewed here.
