About the author

Born in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, in 1872, Jeremiah Simpson Clark studied at Acadia University and later graduated in medicine from Manitoba Medical College. He went on to practice medicine for many years in Brandon, Manitoba, and also served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps during the First World War.

Alongside his medical career, he wrote poetry, essays, and historical pieces. His books include The Acadian Exile and Sea Shell Essays and Rand and the Micmacs, and bibliographic sources also describe him as a poet and lexicographer. His writing shows a strong interest in Maritime history and culture, especially Acadian and Mi'kmaq themes.

Clark died in 1950. Though not a widely known popular author today, his work remains of interest to readers drawn to early Canadian writing, regional history, and the meeting point between professional life and literary ambition.
