by Jeanne Marcel
Jeanne Marcel was a French author of children's books in the 19th century. The Bibliothèque nationale de France lists her as Jeanne Marcel (1832-18..?), which suggests that even her death date is uncertain today.
Her known works include Les petits vagabonds, Histoire d'un cheval de bois, L'école buissonnière, and Le bon frère. Several of these books were published in the late 1860s and were illustrated, showing that her writing was aimed at younger readers and family audiences.
Although not much biographical information appears to survive, her books have remained traceable through major library and public-domain catalogs, including the BnF and Project Gutenberg. That lasting presence gives a small but vivid glimpse of a once-published children's author whose work continued to circulate long after her lifetime.
