A lively 19th-century Swedish playwright and translator, she helped shape Stockholm's popular theater scene while also writing with a sharp eye for social questions. Working under both her own name and the pseudonym Georges Malméen, she built an impressive body of work in a very short life.

by Jeanette Stjernström, Louise Stjernström
Born in Stockholm in 1825, Johanna "Jeanette" Charlotta Granberg was a Swedish writer who is often listed under her married name, Stjernström. She wrote plays, translated for the stage, and became closely associated with Mindre teatern in Stockholm, where much of her dramatic work was performed.
Her writing ranged from comedies and fairy plays to historical drama and socially engaged pieces. Sources also note that she used the pseudonym Georges Malméen, and that contemporaries admired her dramatic talent.
Jeanette Stjernström died in Stockholm in 1857, only 31 years old. Even within that brief life, she left behind a substantial contribution to Swedish literary and theater history.
