About the author

Born in Weicherdange in 1878, he studied natural sciences and agronomy in Stuttgart-Hohenheim, Bonn, and Gießen after finishing school at the Gymnasium in Diekirch. After earning his doctorate, he taught at the agricultural school in Ettelbruck and later worked for Luxembourg’s Ministry of Agriculture.

Alongside his work in agronomy, he wrote schoolbooks and literary works. He is remembered as the author of Berels Berta: Eine Bauerngeschichte aus dem Luxemburgischen, a story rooted in Luxembourg’s rural world, and as a writer whose books connected everyday country life with learning and local culture.

He died in Luxembourg City in 1953. Late in life, he also served on Luxembourg’s dictionary commission, adding another chapter to a career that joined science, education, and writing.
