About the author

Born in St Boswells, Scotland, in 1867, Jean Lang was a British children's writer best known for retelling older literature and traditional tales in a clear, lively way for younger readers. She is also listed as Jeanie Lang and Mrs. John Lang in library and reference records.

Her work includes A Book of Myths, A Book of Saints and Wonders, and Stories from the Faerie Queen Told to the Children, along with other collections drawn from folklore, legend, and classic poetry. Rather than inventing entirely new fantasy worlds, she had a knack for opening the door to stories that had already lasted for centuries.

Lang died in 1932. Today, she is remembered for making mythology and literary classics feel approachable, especially for children meeting those stories for the first time.
