About the author

Born Jean McKishnie Blewett on November 4, 1862, she became known as a Canadian journalist, author, and poet. She also wrote under the pen name Katherine Kent, building a career at a time when newspaper and magazine writing opened new space for women’s voices in print.

Blewett was especially associated with journalism and literary life in Ontario, and her poems and prose were widely published. Her writing often mixed feeling, wit, and close observation, making her work approachable for general readers while still showing a strong literary presence.

She died on August 19, 1934. Though not as widely remembered today as some of her contemporaries, she remains part of Canada’s literary history as a writer who moved comfortably between poetry and journalism.
