About the author

Born Josepha Mose in Preetz on September 20, 1860, she was the daughter of builder and architect Joseph Eduard Mose. German reference sources identify Jassy Torrund as her pen name, and note that she later lived in Breslau, where she died in 1943.

Accounts of her early life say that illness kept her in bed for long periods when she was young, and that this is where her writing life began. Under the name Jassy Torrund, she went on to publish many stories and novels, including work printed in popular periodicals such as Die Gartenlaube.

Although she is not widely known today, library and digitized-text records show that her fiction continued to circulate long after first publication. Her career offers a glimpse of a prolific German-language author whose stories once reached a broad reading public.
