Born in Schildwolde on March 27, 1863, Jan Rinke was a Dutch artist whose work spanned painting, illustration, watercolor, etching, lithography, and decorative art. He was active in the Netherlands at a time when printed images were becoming an important part of everyday life, and his range shows how comfortably he worked across both traditional art and commercial design.

Rinke is especially associated with illustration and graphic work.
