Born in Huddersfield, England, in 1909, James Mason studied architecture before turning to acting. He rose to prominence in British cinema in the 1930s and 1940s, becoming one of the country’s most recognizable film stars.
Mason later found international success in Hollywood, where he appeared in celebrated films including A Star Is Born, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, North by Northwest, and Lolita.
