About the author

Born in Compton, California, on July 12, 1924, and raised in nearby Long Beach, James Oliver Causey Jr. was an American fiction writer whose career stretched across several popular genres. He first made his name with science fiction and fantasy stories in magazines such as Weird Tales and Galaxy Science Fiction.

As his career developed, he turned increasingly to crime fiction, where he became known for tense, fast-moving stories and novels. His work appeared in magazines including Detective Story Magazine, and his fiction was later reprinted and remembered by genre publishers and readers interested in mid-century pulp writing.

Causey died in Laguna Beach, California, on April 13, 2003. Though he is not as widely known today as some of his contemporaries, his mix of speculative fiction and noir-style crime writing gives him a distinctive place in twentieth-century popular fiction.
