Born Jalmari Kasimir Forsström on April 22, 1890, at Seestan manor in Nastola, he later took the name Jalmari Kara. He was a Finnish diplomi-insinööri, a Jäger captain, and a writer, and his life moved between military service, engineering, and literature.
Kara is known as one of those early 20th-century figures whose writing grew out of direct experience rather than a purely literary path. Alongside his work as an engineer, he took part in major events of his time and built a reputation that connected practical skill, national service, and authorship.
He died in Oulu on October 5, 1936. Though not widely known outside Finland today, his life story remains striking because it brought together several worlds at once: the army, technical work, and the written word.
