About the author

Born Otto Hjalmar Sjöstedt in Vesilahti on November 20, 1875, he wrote under the name Jalmari Järviö. He worked as an office clerk for the Forssa company and built his writing alongside that working life, a background that connects closely with the industrial and everyday settings seen in his work.

Järviö is remembered as a Finnish author and playwright. One of his known works is Tehtaantyttö, a three-act play, and his bibliography on Project Gutenberg shows that a substantial number of his writings have remained available to later readers.

He died in Helsinki on June 20, 1934. Though not widely known outside Finland today, his writing stands out for its connection to common people and to the changing social world of his time.
