About the author

Born in Portland, Oregon, Jack Lewis is an American author, journalist, and Army veteran. He studied English at Washington State University and later earned an MFA in screenwriting from the University of Southern California, a mix of training that helps explain both the literary and cinematic feel of his work.

Lewis served as a U.S. Army staff sergeant during the Iraq War in 2004 and 2005. His writing from that experience was included in Operation Homecoming, and he also appeared as a writer in the Oscar-nominated documentary adaptation, bringing his firsthand perspective to a wider audience.

He is also widely known for his motorcycle journalism, especially his contributions to Motorcyclist magazine. Across books, essays, and articles, his writing tends to be direct, vivid, and grounded in lived experience, whether he is exploring combat, travel, machines, or family life.
