by Jack Johnson
Born in 1896 and active in Provincetown, Massachusetts, he was a member of the Beachcombers Artists Club, a long-running artists' group closely tied to Cape Cod's creative life.
He is best known for Stories of Cape Cod, a collection of short pieces that brings together local history, legend, and everyday character in an easy, welcoming style. He also helped bring illustrated children's books to readers, working with watercolor art by fellow Beachcombers artists.
Along with his wife, Laura Johnson, he was an original publisher of The Cape Codder newspaper. He died in 1973, leaving behind work that preserves the places, people, and atmosphere of Cape Cod for later generations.
