Born in Laihia, Finland, on October 1, 1884, Jaakko Nikkinen was a Finnish farmer and writer. Finnish reference sources describe him as a maanviljelijä ja kirjailija—a farmer and author—and note that he also wrote under the name Jouko Nikkinen.
He is known for works including Kotipellon kynnökseltä, Nuori kuokkija, Leppirannan Lauri, and Ylenkatsotuita. Finnish sources also say he was encouraged to begin writing by the writer and public figure Santeri Alkio, which helps place him in the world of early 20th-century Finnish rural literature.
Nikkinen died in Laihia on November 7, 1946. Read today, his work offers a glimpse of Finnish country life and the concerns of ordinary people in his era.
