About the author

Born in La Selva del Camp, Catalonia, on February 5, 1882, Joan Puig i Ferreter became one of the notable writers of Catalan modernism. He is best known as a playwright, though he also wrote fiction and took part in public life as a politician.

Among his best-known works are Aigües encantades (published in 1908) and Camins de França (published in 1934). The edition credit "J. Puig I." attached to Els fills refers to the same author, Joan Puig i Ferreter.

He died in Paris on February 2, 1956. Although his name was overlooked at times, his work has continued to attract attention for the way it brought urgency, debate, and strong feeling to the Catalan stage and page.
