About the author

Born in Catalonia in 1882, Joan Puig i Ferreter was a playwright, writer, and politician associated with the modernist movement. He is especially known for the play Aigües encantades and for the novel Camins de França, which has been described as one of his major prose works.

Alongside his literary career, he was active in politics and served with the Republican Left of Catalonia during the years of the Second Spanish Republic. He died in Paris in 1956.

Readers often come to his work for its dramatic energy: personal conscience, tradition, social conflict, and moral tension are central to many of his stories and plays.
