About the author

Born in England in 1965, J. K. Rowling wrote stories from an early age and later studied at the University of Exeter. Before becoming internationally famous, she worked in several jobs and spent time living in Portugal, where she began developing ideas that would grow into the Harry Potter books.

The first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was published in 1997 and launched a worldwide phenomenon. The seven-book series brought her major literary awards, film adaptations, and a huge international readership across generations.

Rowling has also written books for adults, including crime novels published as Robert Galbraith. Alongside her writing, she has been known for charitable work through projects and organizations supporting children, families, and medical research.
