About the author

Before the Harry Potter books made her internationally famous, she studied at the University of Exeter and later spent time teaching English in Portugal. The idea for Harry Potter came to her during a train journey, and the series went on to become a major global success, with translations in dozens of languages and adaptations for film, stage, and screen.

Alongside the wizarding world books, she has written for adult readers too. Her novel The Casual Vacancy was adapted by the BBC, and under the pen name Robert Galbraith she launched the Cormoran Strike crime series, later adapted for television.

Her work has also extended beyond fiction. She has been involved in screenwriting and production for projects connected to the Harry Potter universe, and her public work includes supporting charitable efforts through Lumos and other causes featured on her official site.
