About the author

Born in New York City in 1863, John Anderson Bensel built a career in civil engineering and public service. He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology and later became a prominent figure in the profession, including serving as president of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Bensel is listed as the author of Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Vol. LXX, Dec. 1910, a work drawn from his address at the society's annual convention. For readers encountering him through audiobook and reprint editions, his writing offers a direct window into the concerns, ideals, and language of American engineering in the early 1900s.

He died in 1922. Although he is remembered more for engineering and civic leadership than for a large literary career, his published work has remained available through archival and public-domain collections.
