About the author

Born in Veszprém on February 28, 1864, he became a well-known Hungarian journalist and writer who also published under the name Arnold Steiner. He worked for major newspapers and magazines, building a reputation as a sharp, entertaining voice in Hungarian literary life.

He wrote many short stories and novels, and contemporary readers especially valued the charm, humor, and imagination in his work. Some of his stories proved durable enough to inspire film adaptations, showing how naturally his writing lent itself to vivid scenes and memorable situations.

He died in Budapest on November 10, 1927. Though not widely known in English today, he remains part of the lively world of late 19th- and early 20th-century Hungarian popular literature.
