About the author

Born in Petrovichi, Russia, in 1920 and raised in Brooklyn, he became one of the most prolific and recognizable writers of the 20th century. He studied chemistry, earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry, and taught at Boston University before focusing mainly on writing.

He is especially remembered for landmark science fiction such as the Foundation series and the robot stories, including the famous Three Laws of Robotics. Alongside fiction, he wrote a remarkable number of nonfiction books and essays that explained science in a friendly, straightforward way for general readers.

His career bridged entertainment and education: he could imagine vast galactic futures and then turn around and explain real-world science with the same clarity. That mix of curiosity, wit, and accessibility made him a favorite of both dedicated science fiction fans and readers who simply loved learning.
