About the author

Born in Petrovichi, Russia, and raised in Brooklyn after his family emigrated to the United States when he was very young, Isaac Asimov became one of the most prolific and recognizable writers of the 20th century. He earned a doctorate in chemistry from Columbia University and later taught biochemistry at Boston University, bringing a scientist’s clarity and curiosity to everything he wrote.

He is best known for landmark science fiction such as the Foundation series and the Robot stories, including the famous Three Laws of Robotics. Alongside his fiction, he wrote a huge range of books that explained science for general readers in a direct, friendly way, helping make complex subjects feel accessible.

During his lifetime, Asimov wrote or edited roughly 500 books, along with countless essays, letters, and articles. That astonishing range, paired with his gift for making ideas exciting, is a big reason his work continues to attract both lifelong science-fiction fans and brand-new readers.
