About the author

Born in London on January 27, 1897, Iris Tree was the daughter of the actor-manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and grew up close to the stage. She became known not only as a poet and actress, but also as an artists’ model, and her striking presence made her a memorable character in British cultural life.

Tree was often described as bohemian, eccentric, and adventurous. She wrote poetry, appeared in films and on stage, and mixed with major creative figures of her time, including artists drawn to her distinctive look and personality.

She died on April 13, 1968. Remembered for her sharp wit and unconventional spirit, she remains an intriguing example of the way literature, theater, and visual art overlapped in the early 20th century.
