About the author

Born in Turin in 1875, Innocenzo Cappa built a varied career as a writer, journalist, speaker, and political figure. He began in political journalism, taking over the direction of L'Italia del popolo in Milan after Arcangelo Ghisleri, and later worked for Il Secolo, where he also served as a drama critic.

He wrote for the theater as well, with works including L'abbandono and Salvatore il masnadiero. Alongside his literary and journalistic work, he was active in Italian public life, which gave his writing a strong connection to the debates and ideals of his time.

Cappa is remembered as one of those early modern Italian authors whose career crossed several worlds at once: literature, criticism, journalism, and politics. That mix gives his work an energy rooted not only in style, but in direct engagement with the society around him.
