About the author

Born in Washington, D.C., in 1895, Inez Hogan became an American writer and illustrator best known for children's books. She studied at the Cape Cod School of Art and later lived in Provincetown, Massachusetts, as well as New York City.

Hogan created more than 60 books and was especially known for her animal stories, including her popular "Twins" books. She also wrote the Nicodemus series, centered on a young African American boy, and illustrated books by other authors as well as her own.

From the 1930s on, writing for children became her main livelihood. She died in Orleans, Massachusetts, in February 1973, leaving behind a large body of work remembered for its charm, humor, and affection for young readers.
