Born in Amsterdam on April 15, 1875, Ina Boudier-Bakker became one of the best-known Dutch novelists of her time. She wrote under the name Ina Boudier-Bakker, though her full name was Klaziena Boudier-Bakker, and she died in Utrecht on December 26, 1966.

She was especially popular for novels that brought everyday lives into sharp focus, often exploring family relationships and the pressures of social change. Her best-known book is De klop op de deur (1930), a multi-generational novel set against a changing Netherlands.

Although critics did not always value her work as highly as general readers did, she reached a large audience and remained an important presence in Dutch literary culture. Today she is remembered as a major Dutch woman writer of the early 20th century, with a body of work that offers a vivid picture of middle-class life and its tensions.
