About the author

Born in 1888, Ilmari Räsänen was a Finnish author best known in literary records as Toivo Ilmari Räsänen. He studied at the University of Helsinki, earned his degree in the early 1900s, and later worked there as a teacher of recitation. Sources also describe him as a reciter and recitation instructor, which helps explain the strong spoken quality associated with his career.

Räsänen wrote nonfiction as well as literary work, and he is listed as the author of a book about the celebrated Finnish actress Ida Aalberg. Biographical records suggest that he traveled abroad for study in the 1910s, especially to deepen his knowledge of speech and performance.

He died in 1931 at a relatively young age. Although he is not widely known outside Finland today, the surviving references present him as a distinctive figure at the meeting point of writing, performance, and education.
