About the author

Ida Riedisser (1853–1927) was an author and translator whose surviving work centers on Italian literature, art, and cultural history. She is best known for Inscriptions from Dante’s Divina Commedia in the Streets of Florence, published in Milan and Florence in 1913.

The book explains Florentine inscriptions connected with Dante’s Divine Comedy, pairing Italian quotations with English translations, commentary, and illustrations. Its twenty colored plates depict heraldic emblems and other details associated with historic Florentine families and places.

Riedisser also translated Victor Cherbuliez’s Athenische Plaudereien über ein Pferd des Phidias into German. Although detailed biographical information about her is scarce, her books show a sustained interest in the connections between literature, art, and the streets of Italy.
