About the author

Born in Koski Hl. on October 24, 1888, and later dying in Helsinki on June 22, 1969, Huugo Felix Jalkanen was a Finnish writer whose work moved between poetry, criticism, translation, and journalism. He completed a master's degree in philosophy in 1914, and he was awarded the honorary title of professor in 1959.

Alongside his own writing, he worked for decades as a literary and theater critic in several newspapers. Sources also describe him as active in Finnish writers' and dramatists' organizations, showing how closely he was involved with the literary life of his time.

Jalkanen wrote polished free-verse lyric poetry as well as plays that often explored ethical and ideological questions. He was also especially respected as a translator of drama into Finnish, a role that helped connect Finnish readers and theater audiences with major works from abroad.
