Born in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1872, Howard Clemens Hillegas built his career as a writer and newspaper man. He is remembered as an author, correspondent, and editor, with a life that moved between reporting and book writing.
Hillegas traveled to South Africa as a correspondent for the New York World during the years of the Boer War.
