About the author

Born in 1822, Horace Alfred Ford was an English archer whose name became closely linked with excellence in target shooting. He earned a remarkable reputation in the mid-19th century, winning the Grand National Archery Meeting repeatedly and setting standards that made him famous well beyond his own era.

Ford is also remembered as the author of The Theory and Practice of Archery, first published in 1856. Drawn from his experience as a champion, the book combined instruction with careful observation and became one of the foundational works on archery technique.

He died in 1880, but his legacy has lasted through both his competitive achievements and his writing. A suitable verified portrait image could not be confirmed from the sources checked, so no profile image is included here.
