About the author

Born in 1872, Hilda Louisa Janey Wolfe Murray was a British writer also known as Hilda Murray of Elibank and Lady Murray of Elibank. She wrote Flower Legends for Children, an illustrated book first published in 1890, and later Echoes of Sport, a collection of sporting and outdoor pieces published in the early 20th century.

Her work suggests a writer with a strong feel for nature, storytelling, and the rhythms of country life. Flower Legends for Children introduces young readers to traditional tales linked with familiar plants, while Echoes of Sport reflects an interest in field sports and observation outdoors.

She died in 1929. Although not widely known today, her surviving books show a versatile author who could write both for children and for readers drawn to the landscape, lore, and pastimes of her time.
