About the author

Best known for The Modern Ku Klux Klan (1922), he wrote under the name Henry P. Fry, or Henry Peck Fry. Contemporary catalog records identify him as Henry P. (Henry Peck) Fry, born in 1881 and deceased in 1956.

His best-known book grew out of investigative work connected to the New York World. In its preface, Fry explains that much of the book was based on articles he wrote as an investigator for that newspaper, and the work presents itself as an exposure of the revived Ku Klux Klan of the early 1920s.

That background gives his writing an unusually direct perspective. Rather than treating the Klan as a distant subject, Fry wrote as someone who claimed insider knowledge and wanted to warn readers about the movement's methods and dangers.
