Henry B. (Henry Burchard) Fine

Born in 1858, Henry Burchard Fine was an American mathematician who became one of Princeton University's most influential faculty members. He studied at the College of New Jersey, the institution later renamed Princeton University, and went on to build a distinguished academic career there.

Fine taught mathematics and served for many years in senior leadership at Princeton, including as dean of the faculty. He was closely associated with the strengthening of the university's academic standards and with the development of mathematics as a serious field of study on campus.

He also wrote textbooks and scholarly works, including books on algebra and coordinate geometry. Fine died in 1928, and Princeton later named Fine Hall in his honor, reflecting the lasting place he held in the university's history.
