Born in Clermont-Ferrand in 1919, Henri Vidal built his career in French film during the 1940s and 1950s. Sources consistently describe his breakthrough as beginning after he won the "Apollo of 1939" contest in Paris, which helped bring him to wider attention.
He made his screen debut in Montmartre-sur-Seine in 1941 alongside Édith Piaf, and went on to become a familiar leading man in popular French and Italian productions. Across a career that lasted less than two decades, he appeared in more than 30 films.
