About the author

Born in 1805 in Ungstein, in what was then the Bavarian Rhineland, Henri Loeb later became Grand Rabbi of Belgium, serving from 1834 to 1866. Reliable sources connect him closely with Jewish education and community life in Brussels, where he also held an honorary role in a Jewish charitable society.

Alongside his religious leadership, he wrote instructional works for Jewish readers and students. Sources specifically note a catechism for use in Jewish schools in Belgium, published in Brussels in 1835, and Histoire Sainte; ou, Histoire des Israélites, a wide-ranging retelling of Jewish sacred history.

Some catalog records appear to list him as born in 1885, but stronger biographical sources identify him as the 1805–1890 Belgian grand rabbi and author. No suitable verified portrait image was found on the sources reviewed, so no profile image is included.
