1807–1859
A 19th-century Dutch schoolbook writer, he produced practical books that helped bring geometry, arithmetic, and geography into the classroom. His surviving works suggest a teacher focused on clear explanation and useful exercises rather than academic showmanship.

by Hendrik Sluijters
Hendrik Sluijters was a Dutch author of educational books active in the first half of the 19th century. Library and book records connect him with school texts on geometry, arithmetic, and geography, and Project Gutenberg lists him as the author of Meetkundig Schoolboek.
His known works include Meetkundig Schoolboek as well as geography titles such as Aardrijkskundige beschrijving van de provincie Zeeland, ten dienste der scholen and Aardrijkskundige mengelingen, een leesboek voor de hoogste klasse der lagere scholen. Taken together, these books point to a writer interested in practical teaching and in giving students accessible material for use in school.
Not much biographical detail was easy to confirm from reliable online sources beyond his dates, 1807–1859, and his published works. Even so, the books that remain under his name give a clear impression of an educator whose writing was meant to support everyday learning in Dutch classrooms.
