Born in Virrat, Finland, in 1884, Heikki Korhonen was known as Korhos-Heikki. After attending primary school, he worked as a shop assistant, later studied in Helsinki at a cantor-organist school, and then served for several years as an organist before returning to Virrat.
He became known as a writer of community plays and other popular works. Sources also note that he wrote a biography of the bear hunter Martti Kitunen, showing his interest in memorable local figures and Finnish country life.
Korhonen spent much of his life rooted in the same place where he was born, and he died in Virrat in 1957. That strong local connection helps give his work a grounded, familiar quality that still makes him an interesting figure in Finnish literary history.
