Born in Stockholm in 1877, Hans Harald "Hasse" Zetterström became one of Sweden’s best-known humorists and men of letters. He worked in journalism from a young age, wrote under several pseudonyms, and built a reputation as a sharp, playful observer of everyday life.
His career ranged widely: he wrote fiction, essays, and light satirical pieces, and he also served as an editor and publisher. Swedish literary sources especially note his importance to the kåseri—the informal, witty literary column or essay—and describe his work as both prolific and unusually durable.
Zetterström died in Stockholm in 1946, but his writing has continued to circulate through library editions and literary archives. For readers coming to him now, he offers a lively window into Swedish humor and urban literary culture in the first half of the twentieth century.
