Born in Kensington in 1868, Harold Edward Gorst was a British author, journalist, editor, and playwright. Reference sources also note that he was the second son of Sir John Eldon Gorst, and that he studied at Eton, in Halle, and at the Leipzig Conservatoire.
Gorst wrote across several genres. His books include Without Bloodshed: A Probability of the Twentieth Century, Sketches of the Future, China, The Curse of Education, and The Fourth Party. That mix of titles shows the range of his interests: politics, society, international affairs, and imaginative looks ahead.
He was married to the novelist and dramatist Nina Gorst, and he remained active in literary and journalistic circles over many years. Harold Edward Gorst died in Arundel, Sussex, on August 13, 1950.
