by Harold E. Palmer
Born in 1877, Harold E. Palmer was an English linguist, phonetician, and an early pioneer of English language teaching. He became especially known for promoting the Oral Method, an approach that emphasized listening and speaking as the foundation of language learning.
Palmer spent many years working in Japan, where he played an important role in reforming English education. His teaching ideas and research helped influence the development of applied linguistics in the 20th century, and his books and methods were widely used by teachers and learners.
He died in 1949, but his influence has continued through the study of language pedagogy and classroom practice. He is still remembered as an important figure in the history of English language teaching.
