Born in Leiden on November 9, 1886, he became known as a Dutch writer and journalist. Sources agree that he wrote roughly twenty novels, and that his work found readers beyond the Netherlands, especially through translations in Scandinavia.
His first novel appeared in 1908. Among his better-known titles is Malle gevallen (1913), a comic novel that was later made into a film in 1934.
He died in The Hague on March 20, 1964, at the age of 77. Alongside his literary work, he was also active in journalism, and his career left him remembered as a popular early-20th-century Dutch storyteller.
