About the author

Hans Joachim Dominik was born in Zwickau on November 15, 1872, and became known as a German science fiction and nonfiction writer, science journalist, and trained engineer. His background in electrical and mechanical engineering gave his fiction a practical, technical flavor that set it apart from more purely fantastical adventure stories.

He wrote both popular science pieces and novels, often imagining near-future inventions and large-scale technological change. Readers were especially drawn to his energetic, idea-driven storytelling, and he became one of the best-known German writers of technological adventure fiction of his time.

Dominik died in Berlin on December 9, 1945. Today he is remembered as an important early voice in German science fiction, especially for bringing scientific curiosity and engineering ambition into mainstream popular reading.
