1882–1942
A little-known Finnish playwright, she is remembered for a single published drama, Isännät ja emännät from 1914. Her brief surviving record gives her the air of a writer whose work hints at a wider life in Finnish theatre and letters.

by Hanna Hämeenniemi
Born on February 19, 1882, in Virolahti, Hanna Hämeenniemi was a Finnish playwright. The basic published record on her is slim, but reliable sources agree on her dates and identify her specifically as a dramatist.
Her known work is the play Isännät ja emännät, published in 1914. It appears to be her only published book-length work, which makes it the piece through which she is still remembered today.
Hämeenniemi died on July 3, 1942, in Ilmajoki. Because so little biographical material is readily confirmed, what remains most striking is the survival of that one play and the glimpse it offers into early 20th-century Finnish literary culture.
