author
1848–1940
A writer on British art and watercolor painting, he helped preserve the stories of artists and schools that might otherwise have slipped from view. His books blend historical research with an obvious affection for painters, pictures, and places.

by H. M. (Herbert Minton) Cundall
Born in 1848 and active into the early 20th century, Herbert Minton Cundall was a British art writer, curator, and watercolorist. Sources consistently identify him as an author on art, and reference works also connect him with museum work and with fellowship in the Society of Antiquaries.
He is best known for books on British painting and artists, including A History of British Water Colour Painting, Birket Foster, R.W.S., and studies connected with the Norwich School. His writing shows a strong interest in British watercolor traditions and in documenting the lives and work of earlier artists for a wider reading public.
Cundall died in 1940. Although he appears in library and art-reference records, I could not confirm a suitable portrait image from the pages I was able to inspect, so no profile image is included here.
