About the author

Henry John Chaytor was a British academic, classicist, and hispanist who lived from 1871 to 1954. He taught at Merchant Taylors' School in Crosby, later served at King Edward VII School in Sheffield, and went on to become headmaster of Plymouth College.

He is especially remembered for his writing on medieval literature and Romance-language culture, including studies of the troubadours. His books helped introduce readers to Provençal poetry and its wider literary influence, making a specialized subject more approachable.

Chaytor later became Master of St Catharine's College, Cambridge, serving from 1933 to 1946. A suitable verified portrait image was not clearly available from the pages reviewed, so no profile image is included here.
