by Guerau de Liost
Born Jaume Bofill i Mates in Olot in 1878, he wrote under the pen name Guerau de Liost. He was a Catalan poet, journalist, and politician, and his work is closely linked with Noucentisme, the cultural movement that favored clarity, order, and classical balance.
Alongside his literary career, he was active in politics and public service. Sources describe him as a conservative Catalanist and note that he helped found Acció Catalana, while also serving in municipal and parliamentary roles.
He died in Barcelona in 1933. Today, Guerau de Liost is remembered above all for his poetry and for the way he helped shape modern Catalan literary culture in the early 20th century.
