by Gertrud von Brockdorff
Born in Magdeburg on June 9, 1893, as Marie Alwine Gertrud Stendal, she later became known as Gertrud Baronin von Brockdorff. Sources agree that she studied at universities in Munich, Berlin, Marburg, and Kiel, and earned a doctorate in 1919.
She went on to build a career as a writer, especially of novels with historical subjects, and her work is often described as part of German popular or entertainment literature. She also wrote for the screen: film records connect her with works including Menschen ohne Vaterland (1937) and Heiratsschwindler (1938).
Gertrud von Brockdorff died on September 5, 1961, in Dörnick in the district of Plön. A reliable portrait image could not be confirmed from the sources checked, so no author photo is included here.
