About the author

Born in Lille on July 5, 1874, Georges Ducrocq was a French writer whose life moved well beyond the desk. Sources describe him as an explorer, poet, and diplomat as well as an author, and his career connected literature with travel and public service.

He was a member of the Société de géographie and, with Louis Marin, traveled through the Caucasus and the Far East between 1899 and 1901. Later, he served as military attaché in Tehran from late 1919 to 1921 and then worked on a mission in Syria with General Weygand. These experiences fed books that drew on places, politics, and people encountered firsthand.

His bibliography includes works such as Pauvre et douce Corée, La blessure mal fermée, and Le journal de Soleiman. Georges Ducrocq died in 1927, and his surviving papers and publications suggest a restless, observant writer who brought the wider world to French readers of his time.
