About the author

Born in 1866, George Howitt Weaver was an American physician, pathologist, and writer whose career was closely tied to Chicago medicine. He studied at Rush Medical College and later taught pathology at Rush Medical College and the Woman's Medical School of Northwestern University.

He published on contagious disease, bacteriology, and public health, and wrote for medical journals including JAMA. His books included Beginnings of Medical Education in and Near Chicago and works on bacteriology and common infectious illnesses, showing both his scientific training and his interest in medical history.

Weaver died in 1947. Today he is remembered both as a practicing medical scholar and as an author who helped explain disease prevention and preserve the history of medicine in Chicago.
